Elsie was born to Rita and Luis Birch on August 8th, 1936. She grew up on the Patuxent River in Maryland, but spent most of her adult life in Fayetteville, NC where she raised her five children.
Elsie was an extremely motivated woman and started several small retail businesses to help with family income. She turned one of her favorite hobbies, ceramics, into a full-time business and continued this work until late in her life. Elsie loved this work so much, that once she retired, she passed on her ceramic molds so that another artist could continue this beautiful work in the future.
Aside from ceramics, Elsie had many other passions. She loved music and was an active member in Westminster Presbyterian church's handbell choir. She also regularly ensured her grandchildren were practicing their scales and chords on the piano. Elsie loved playing cards and was a dangerous opponent playing canasta. She also had a passion for animals, as she regularly watched birds in her backyard and had a beloved dog, Baby, for many years.
Elsie was a selfless woman and was a devoted caregiver to many in the final stages of their life – not only to family, but to close friends as well. She was also a woman beyond her time, as she embraced all people from all backgrounds and had an “adopted” family like no other. She will be missed by many.
Elsie is survived by her five children, James Mohler, William Mohler, Thomas Mohler, Lorraine Mohler, and Bonnie Fields, as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who love her dearly.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Reeves Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Reeves Funeral Home.
