Downie was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a competitive nature and loved to win. He won a championship chess game, played baseball, and boxed while in the U.S. Marine Corps. He owned Dowless Safe, Lock, and Repair for many years and could tell you anything you wanted to know about the locksmith business. He even tested locks for the government. He was also a retired Civil Servant as Supervisor of the key shop on Ft. Bragg. He collected many things over the years, including fire arms, knives, and the list could go on. He served our country in he United States Marine Corps, and was very proud to be a veteran.
Downie is preceded in death by his parents, Downie and Vivian Dowless Sr. and his brother, Leon Dowless. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy King Dowless; his children, David Dowless Sr. (Sandy) and Diana Brincefield (Bill); his grandchildren, Rodney Hooks (Laqueta), Richard Hook (Caty), David Dowless Jr. (Jeanie), and Ashley Dowless; 4 great grandchildren; his sisters, Jean Elkins (Bobby) and Fostine Bowen (Charlie); as well as a host of other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
