Donald Edgar Tilley, age 87, of Fayetteville, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Donald was born January 11, 1935 in Kane, Wyoming. Don is the second of eleven children born to Loren and Leona. Through his youth ,being raised on a farm, he learned many valuable skills in lessons in life and made the commitment to his country to serve in the U.S. Army. He bravely served in both Korea and Vietnam and attained the rank of Captain, and was awarded many honors including the Bronze Star. He served his country until he retired with twenty years of honorable service. He recieved his Bachelor of Arts from Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He later used his degree by assisting others through a Civil Service career as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor and in Family Advocacy from which he retired a second time.
Donald made furniture, enjoyed photography, watching old movies especially John Wayne westerns and Gunsmoke, always wanted to travel and loved the beach and sitting in the sun. Donald loved animals, especially his two dogs, Charlie Brown and Dallas. His great desire was to be a help to others and usually could find something good in everyone. And much like his dad, he could fix and repair almost anything; often with left over parts and pieces kept because they may be needed one day!
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rory Tilley of Cutbank, MT, Cheryl Jamison of Harrisburg, PA, David Tilley of Manteo, NC and Crystal Fahrendholz and her husband Randy of Sanford, NC; his brothers, Edward, Melvin, Earl, Dennis and Marvin Tilley; his sister, Sherry Nelson; and a whole host of extended family, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Loren and Leona Tilley; his sisters, Joyce Buster, Gloria Dudley and Charlene Shultz; and a brother, Jerry Tilley.
A graveside service with military honors for Donald will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Donald's name to the Disable American Veterans charities at www.dav.org.
