Charlie spent his life serving our country. He retired after 22 years in the United States Air Force. After retirement, he served his community with great vigor. He was a co-founder of Dixie Youth Baseball and loved working with children teaching them all about the game. It has been said that he was a mentor to many, and a hero to all. Charlie was a family man and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Davenport Cole. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Cindy Monroe Hewett and her husband Larry, Susan Lester and her husband Scott, and Charlie Burriss Cole III and his wife Stephanie; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, as well as a host of other family members, and many, many friends.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday October 6, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hope Mills Cemetery.
