To Warren, 

Words cannot convey my love and appreciation for you but I will try.  As I write this, my mind floods with the millions of moments when your caring and thoughtful ways touched my heart. 

Thank you for everything.  I’m so grateful to you for so many happy memories.  You were the one I’d call to share a good laugh.  And when times were tough, you were my trusted confidant.  When I needed “one,” you gave me “two.”  I admired you because, whatever you did, you gave it your all.  You were definitely a man of action who had the ability to lead with gentleness and kindness.  You were my favorite as well as everyone else’s.  Thank you.  

I will miss your wonderful presence here dearly but you give me another reason to look forward to going home when it’s my time.  I look forward to our happy reunion.

My favorite memories of Uncle Warren aren’t really memories exactly but feelings — Uncle always had a way of making me feel safe and special and important. He would always remember my birthday as a kid and make sure to spend quality time with me when we visited Hawaii. He would take us to do activities and ask me about my favorite sports team or interests that he would remember from previous conversations. 

These are the feelings in my heart when I think of Uncle and Auntie Laura too. You are both a perfect match in this way — the ability to make people feel special and comfortable when they are around you. One specific memory is when Uncle Warren and Auntie Laura came to Lake Tahoe to ski with us. We were all so excited to meet Laura and happy for Uncle, we could tell he was so happy and in love. 

We also love how good of a brother to mom Uncle was — always calling and checking in with her. I know mom loves and misses him every day and thinks about him daily. 

We are so grateful for the time that Uncle was able spend with Tawni, David, Benny and Gracie. Although it was too short we think of Uncle all the time and share memories of him with the kids. 

We love you Uncle and Auntie. We hope to see Uncle once again and will continue to help his legacy of love and kindness live on through imparting lessons he taught us to our children.

I will miss Warren dearly, especially when I return to Hawaii.  He was a caring and generous person.  I recall Warren when he was a preschooler.  I used to bring him home from school on the city bus.  He was such a well-behaved boy.  Warren will be gone forever from our sight but not from my heart.  With much love to you Warren. We will always have very fond memories of Warren, especially his infectious laugh and warm smile that crinkled his eyes. The Vancouver trip to visit our friends Jeff and Iris will always be a favorite memory, cycling around Stanley Park, hiking up the Chief, seeing “the bear”, and enjoying the great food! (home-cooked meals at Jeff and Iris’s home, dim sum, fish & chips, and tea & cakes at Bon Ton). Warren, thank you for being such a great friend. Ellen & Susan

Although I met Warren only 6-7 years ago, he quickly became one of my best friends.  At first I chuckled thinking “Now why is this guy in our Jazzercise class? “ I soon learned that he was pretty self assured and secure in himself and just plainly loved the class as I did.  Being the personable guy he is we found much in common: owned “shelties”, cared for aging parents, had the same anniversary month and shared similar values.  Needless to say, we had lots to talk about but I’ll admit, Warren was the better listener.  He was patient, gentle and sincere.  When he introduced me to Laura I thought, “Wow!  What a sweet couple!  They are a perfect match!”

Last year, Warren and Laura said, “Yes!” to joining our campaign team.  They ran with us from start to finish and truly, Warren being our “Treasurer,  was indeed our “MVP”.  It was easy to entrust Warren with the finances not based on his background or experience but largely due to his character and integrity.  He was a good man.  Working together this way took our friendship up a notch as I saw him as the big brother I never had.  I was and still am devastated by his sudden passing.  Maybe our shelties “Mariah” and “Faithful” wanted him to take them on a walk up there in heaven.  Warren did make the world a better place.  I know his presence in paradise makes heaven a much better place too.  I am truly blessed to have known him.

Warren is a friend we've known for a long time. He defines the word friend. No words can truly express what the years of his friendship has gifted us: his kindness, his sincerity, his acceptance. We got the wisdom of his experience in investing in the stock market. He was always our go to guy for fundamental analysis of the markets.

How shall I remember him? In a quirky sort of way, I'll remember him everyday. Here's one story... I was talking to him on the phone one day and mentioned that I tie my shoes with a double knot to prevent them from coming undone. He said that he didn't need to do that because he learned a slightly different way of tying so that the knot doesn't come undone. And so now, using his technique, each day when I tie my shoes, I think of Warren. Sometimes, small gifts have lasting effects.

Warren I miss you a lot since I've known you since 2nd grade.
My memories of you are when we biked all along Kalanianaole Hwy, Kahala and Diamond Head/Kapahulu.  Couldn't keep up with you going down Diamond Head Road from the lookout to Kapiolani Park at 40mph.  Then I remembered watching the Sound of Music and I saw your eyes sparkle as Julie Andrews sand her song.
Finally I never saw you so relaxed as you, Laura and I listened to the beautiful piano of Jenny at the Moana Hotel.
I can hardly wait to meet you in heaven so we can talk story again..

Warren, my fondest memories of you are as follows:
bicycling with you around Kahala, Diamond Head, Aina Haina and once we made it all the way to Hawaii Kai.  We'd stop at KCC parking lot overlooking all of Kahala all the way to Koko Head Crater.  Your reaction was a simple, "Wow its so beautiful!"  Your greatest thrill has going down Diamond Head Crater road from the lookout to Kapiolani Park full blast almost 40mph!  You always had to wait for me because I went down at a mere 20mph.
Another one of your favorite things was watching your well worn VHS tape of the  Sound of Music.  It displayed the pureness of your heart.
Finally we used to go to listen to  a fine pianist Jenny? at the Moana Hotel and she became good friends with Warren and Laura.  I never saw Warren so relaxed as when we hear her concerts at the hotel.
All these memories are precious to me and locked in my mind till I meet Warren in  heaven.
Thank you for being my best friend since second grade.

I am so sorry that Warren left us relatively early in life. But I am happy he had lived a full and happy life while living on this good earth.  He was always so kind, thoughtful and generous in many ways. He left us with footprints that is hard to follow.  And in our fond farewell to him on that special day, he was respectfully surrounded by family members and dear friends. It was a memorably time, indeed, but yet sad.
And as for me, when it is my time to go, I hope to meet and be with my favorite nephew again far, far away some where out there.

Uncle Clifford


We will always cherish Warren and the many fond memories we shared working with him at the Navy on the Kaho’olawe project.  Even after years working together we maintained our close bond and  friendships into retirement.  This was one of our luncheon get togethers.  Warren’s kind spirit will forever remain in our hearts.  Our lives were blessed  to have known Warren as a dear and close friend. 

We were fortunate to have known Warren as a treasured friend for many years. With a gentle and kind demeanor, which Laura also shares, they were so pleasant to be around whenever we got a chance to meet up. The last time we met, Warren and Laura talked about visiting Hokkaido Japan and seeing its lavender fields. Sadly, Warren was taken from us shortly after we met.

Laura, though your soulmate Warren is no longer with us, please take comfort in knowing that Warren's memory lives on in our hearts.

One day, we will all go to see the lavender fields together.

There are good people in this world, and not-so-good people.  Warren was on the top of the list of good people.  He was kind, decent, selfless and brilliant.  We (as we’re sure everyone else) were shocked at his sudden passing – he was active, fit and positive.  Warren was so easy to talk to – we often spoke of life, travel and taxes.  He shared with us that the happiest day of his life was his wedding day - the day he married Laura.  We so hope Laura and the rest of the Lum family can heal – perhaps remembering that Warren led a fulfilled life may ease some of the hurt.   We are so thankful that we share wonderful life-long memories with him and Laura.  He is sorely missed, and the world is less one good person.

   My deepest condolences from the Porzio family. I'm sorry we were not there to attend the memorial service. We were surprised to hear of his passing. He passed too early in life. Warren will be dearly missed. I will forever remember my cousin with the gentle and warm personality. Please know that we are thinking of you at this difficult time.

I met Warren just as the YMCA in my neighborhood reopened following the mandated COVID lockdown.  
We both swam laps around the same time.
Warren enjoyed being in the pool.   He was so focused on his swim routine. 

Eventually I learned that Warren lived about 2 blocks from me as I’d often see him walking his dog and riding his bike through the neighborhood.   Occasionally he would bike over to share freshly boiled peanuts with me. 

I miss seeing him on a regular basis, and I sure miss him in the pool. 
What a sweet man!

Dearest Laura, Shirleen and family,

Warren was a beautiful soul who always had a smile and ready to chat whenever I would run into him at the mall, the YMCA, or riding his bike.  I will remember his kindness and deep love for Laura. 
May you all be comforted by cherishing the wonderful memories you have shared together.

Warren had received numerous awards in his career.  

Warren was an active member of AGA for 30 years. 

Warren was very active in the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) Hawaii Chapter, especially promoting government accounting professionals to younger generations.  

I fondly and appreciatively remember Warren in conjunction with his active support of the Hawaii Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants.  Although I joined the chapter after he was President (1990-1991), he continued to be a strong supporter of chapter activities and my later efforts as President (1995-1996).  His warm personality and calm demeanor always contributed to friendly interactions no matter the topic.  Warren Lum's name and manner always remained with me.  Thankfully, the memory of this loss will fade with time, but the memory of Warren's life, love and sweet smile will remain in my heart and mind.
