Samuel Wayne Conley passed away on August 3rd, 2014 at his Waikiki home of 16 years. He would have been 74 years old on September 30th. He had been ill for some time with a variety of ailments; his death was caused by cardiac arrest due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Wayne is survived by his wife, Roberta Conley; his two daughters, Patricia Brubaker and Renee Conley; his son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Antoinette Conley; and his son, Kevin Conley. He will be missed by his eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Wayne was born to Rosa Ella (Troutman) Conley and Jeter Carl Conley in Johnson City, TN, the seventh of nine children. Four of his siblings, D.W. Conley, Ginger (Conley) MacFarland, Jack Conley, and Sandra Sue (Conley) Yahr preceded him in death. Siblings Christine (Conley) Weems, Velma (Conley) Jackson, Mary Ruth (Conley) Chapman, and Ed Conley survive Wayne.
Wayne retired after 20 years active duty in the Marine Corps which included 4 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded numerous decorations including the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Memorial Services will be held at 10am on Friday, August 29th in the Makai Chapel of Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea St, Honolulu Oahu, HI. At 1pm, the burial will take place in the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, 45-349 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, HI.
Memorial donations may be made in Wayne's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
