I didn't know Mr. Balderston for long, but I was honored to care for him over the past 3 years. I always enjoyed visiting with him, hearing the stories about raising his kids and his career, and seeing his friendly smile. It is so sad to hear of his passing, sending my thoughts to his family and friends.

Michael was also my first cousin. My father, Jim Niedenthal was Polly's brother.  I have many fond memories of visits to the DC area and staying with Aunt Polly and Uncle Bill, visiting the museums and climbing the Washington Monument.  Michael leaves a powerful legacy of a family well loved and valuable, productive work.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  Rest in peace, Michael. 

So sorry to hear that Michael has passed away. My only memories of Michael are from when I was very young.  My mom and Michael's mom were sisters and she spoke of him often.  He was a very good person and will be missed.

Michael was my first cousin but I don’t think we ever met.  My dad Jim Niedenthal was Michael’s mother Polly’s sister.  I have such fond memories of Aunt Polly and Uncle Bill and especially remember staying with them for a visit during the Watergate scandal.  I remember hearing about Michael and his family living in Australia and then Hawaii.  What adventures I imagined for all of them.  I send my sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers for him and to you all.  God bless you.  May he rest in peace.

It saddens me and my family that so much information has been left out of this obituary!  My father is survived by his three younger siblings, Bill and Tom Balderston and Betsy O’Day, He and his loving wife Joyce would have made 60 years of marriage this June.  Together they raised seven children: John, Chris, Dan, Genevieve, Hope, Edward and James.  They share 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Dad was an MIT graduate, worked for NASA, and was an aerospace engineer for the postmaster general in Australia,. He retired from Hawaiian  Tel.  He was active in his parish church.   He is loved and missed!
