“Kanoe”
Age 72 of Waimanalo, Hawaii passed away August 16, 2011 while on her trip that she looked forward to in Cuzco, Peru. She was born in Moanalua Gardens, Hawaii.
She retired as a nurse from Leahi Hospital after serving 35 years.
Kanoe was a Kupuna for Blanche Pope School where she taught Hawaiiana to the children. She was enrolled at Windward Community College in Hawaiian Studies.
She was very active in the community, always giving of her time and aloha to everyone she met. She was a member of; Waimanalo Hawaiian Homestead Association, Hawaiian Civic Club of Waimanalo and Kailua, Waimanalo Senior citizens, Kaahumanu Society, SCHAA, American Cancer society, Alu Like, Ka Lei Papahi’o Kakuhihewa, Aloha No Na Kupuna, YWCA in Kailua, a board member for the Waimanalo Health Center and Leahi Federal Credit Union. She volunteered her time with the Hawaii Food Bank and taking her mo’opuna’s to sing while she played the ukulele, guitar, accordion or piano at Lanakila Care Home, Leahi Hospital, Liliha Health Care Center, Lunalilo Home and Aloha Nursing and Rehab Center in Kaneohe.
She is survived by her husband Harold K. Crowell Jr, sons: James (Kimo), Harold (Red), Dean (Monica) Crowell, Sr and daughter Mary Ann (Lani). Hanai daughters: Nanette (Harley) Hee, Pearl (Kenny) Baenanthantha, Mary Ann Ani. Brothers and sisters; Emma (Joseph) Hoohuli, Maizie-Ann Salado, Solomon (Aileen) Ani, Mildred (Clarence) Sylva, George (Debbie) Ani, Veronica Wright, Helen (Sam) Manalo, Mary Ann Halemano, Arlene Haili, Charmaine (Ernie) Haili, Andrew (Darnell) Leoiki, Veronica Mutch-Leoiki, Amelia (Sai) Iese and Elizabeth Leoiki.
