Laura Hung Moi Tam was blessed to live a full life and passed away at her home at the age of 94 on Sunday, April 19, 2015. She was born in Honolulu on July 6, 1920 to parents Yen Cheung and Mew Lun Chun Au. She grew up in Kalihi and married Samuel Goon Sum Tam (deceased) of Waihee, Maui. They raised their family in Kalihi before moving to Aiea, Hawaii. She graduated from McKinley High School and the Honolulu Business College. She worked as a demonstrator for Brother Sewing Machine before embarking on a long career with the Navy Exchange System first at the Sub Base Exchange in Pearl Harbor and later at the Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange. She began as a sales clerk and progressed to special order clerk and buyer. She was a faithful life-long member of the First Assembly of God Church and supporter of Christian Academy at Moanalua/Red Hill.
She is survived by daughters Faith Shiroma (Gabriel), Geri Yasuhara (Phil) and Naomi-Grace Chow (Eric); sons Malcolm Tam and Gilbert Tam (Dianne); sister Beatrice Goo; and brother Reynold Au. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Kenton (Karen), and brother, Ernest Au.
Services will be on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Borthwick Maunakea Chapel with visitation at 9:30 a.m. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to have lunch with the family following the service at 11:30 a.m. A private burial service will be held with the family at Hawaiian Memorial Park at 2 p.m.
Her family is grateful for all the expressions of sympathy, love and support. Her family offers its very special thanks to Marge Tam and care giving angels, Michelle and Darleen, for their dedication, compassion and exceptional loving care. Her family also wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Kaiser Permanente, Hale Nani and St. Francis Hospice. Thank you mom, popo, tai tai for your love and cherished memories.
