Kwan Yu was born to Kang Wan and Wai Kuen Tong on August 11, 1942 in Canton, China. She was the oldest of five children.
Kwan Yu was previously employed by the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Division, where she worked for over 36 years. She had a tireless work ethic and always put her family above anything else.
Besides her family, her other joys in life were traveling and cooking. She had the magical touch in the kitchen and would make a wide range of dishes. But her ox-tail stew and potstickers were the show stoppers. And she would always make sure that you never left her house hungry.
She is predeceased by her father, Kang Wan; mother, Wai Kuen Tong; father-in-law, Shick Yee Lee; mother-in-law, Yee Jun How; and husband, Ting Lok.
Kwan Yu is survived by her sons, Vernon, Victor, and Varden; daughters-in-law, Tina and Silayan; and granddaughter, Madelyn.
A celebration of Kwan Yu’s life will be held on Saturday, July 17, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at Borthwick Mortuary. Burial will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 am.
The Lee Family would like to especially thank Dr. Sumida, Dr. Yoshikawa, Dr. Kimura as well as the rest of the medical team of doctors and nurses at Kuakini Hospital for the care shown to Kwan Yu and her family.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BorthwickOahu.com for the Lee family.
