In celebration of a full life "well-traveled":
One of Joe's proudest memories in his early life was serving as an interpreter for the American Forces during World War II in the China-Burma-India theater, including the famed 14th Air Force known as the "Flying Tigers" operating out of Kunming.
His extensive career in the travel and hotel industry spanned from Asia to the United States for over 40 years.
He was actively involved in the Honolulu Chinatown community - a former president of the Wong Kong Har Tong Society, a board member of the Mun Lun School and also a leading member of the Honolulu Chinatown Lions Club.
An avid and prolific reader, writer, cartoonist and chronicler, he frequently contributed to the newspaper column "Ramblin' tru' Chinatown". He enjoyed and excelled at public-speaking, being well-known for his oratory skills, quick wit and humor.
The twinkle in his eyes when he "talk story" and tell jokes will always be a treasured memory - he is already greatly missed by his loved ones.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BorthwickOahu.com for the Wong family.
