John was born in Hawai'i on October 17, 1931. John was 91 and passed quietly at home on December 14, 2022. John served in the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years with the rank of Master Sergeant. He later worked for GTE for 15 years in the advertising department. He was an avid golfer and motorcyclist accomplishing 17 continental United States trips with additional trips to include Europe, Asia and Africa. John is survived by his loving partner of over 30 years Patricia Kahapea, son and daughter-in-law; John and Claudia Arruda of Indio California, daughter; Sister Joan Paula Arruda, fsp of St. Louis Missouri, Granddaughter and husband; Alyse and Brandon Ferrier of Port Orchard Washington, Grandson's; John L. Arruda II (deceased August 16, 2010) and Tyler Ferrier and several nieces and nephews. John was born in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Son of John Carvalho de Arruda and Mary Castello, baptized on November 29, 1931 at St. Ann's Catholic church in Heeia. John survived 6 sisters (Dorothy, Meta, Thelma, Josephine, Katherine and Mary Jane). John's family moved to Kailua, Oahu, Hawai'i in 1929 from Honokaa, Hawai'i. A funeral mass will be held for family and friends at St. Anthony of Padua's Catholic Church in Kailua, Oahuon January 5th, 2022 at 11:00 AM. A gathering and luncheon to follow in the Church Hall.
