HEMENIS “NORMAN” ILAC, 87, formerly of Honolulu, Hawaii, died May 8, 2012 in San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning, California where he resided for the past three years. He was born April 20, 1925 in North Hilo, Hawaii, was a retired security guard for The Food Pantry in Waikiki, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was one of 13 children born to Catalina Yoro and Mauro Ilac.
He is survived by five children: Evelyn “Evie” Kringen of Banning, CA, Suzette Pico of Centerville, OH, Bernal M. Ilac of Urbana, OH, Kathryn Ussery of Manassas, VA, and Kalei Campbell of Newport Beach, CA. He also leaves behind two sisters, Kay Acoba and Rose Meyer of Honolulu, 10 grandchildren (all of whom live on the mainland), Terri Kringen McClain, Tricia Kringen Botkin, Sean Beaty, Alex Pico, Tami Kaczmarek (Canada), Chauncey Ilac, Megan Cannon, Tiffany, Sean and Chris Ussery, and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8:30-9:45 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Borthwick Mortuary-Mauka Chapel; service at 9:45 a.m. with committal service and burial 11:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. Casual or Aloha attire is suggested.
