To the loving members of the family of George "Scotty" Braun:

I remember Scotty as a talented, quick-witted and fun-loving '52 classmate at Dear Old Roosevelt! Indeed, a stellar athlete and true "Rough Rider" on the basketball court, as well. 

Possessing a great sense of humor, he was always an "Up kinda guy!" I'm happy that he has left a wonderful and memorable legacy via his loving wife, Winona, and beautiful family.

George “Scotty” “Pops” “Poppi” Braun
Lifelong Punchbowl resident, George Braun, aka Pops and Poppi, 76, went to heaven on May 30, 2011, at home with his family by his side. He was met in heaven by his grandparents, his father, his brother, and his dogs Trixie, Puna, and Beauty. He was born in Honolulu on June 25, 1934 to David and Elsie (Lemes) Braun.  He was a proud member of the 1952 class of Roosevelt High School, and was a Roughrider basketball player. After graduation George joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed on Ellis Island. After his discharge he returned to his childhood home in  Punchbowl where he remained for his entire life.  George was employed by Hickam A.F.B. and worked there for 35 years as a warehouse foreman before his retirement in 1990.  In October 1957, he met the love of his life Winona Kuulei Kekona, a Maui girl.  Seven months later they were married on May 3, 1958. In July 1959, his son George ‘Mike’ was born. In November 1962, his daughter Claire was born. In September 1968, his daughter Karyn was born.  George was a devoted father to his children and would do anything for them. He was an avid mountainball player in the IBEW league, and was known for playing barefoot and his sky high pitching. He was a bowler who played in mixed leagues at Kam Bowl for many years.  Also he was a fantastic player in horseshoes and won many local tournaments and earned many trophies in all three sports. After retired he followed all sports, but football season was his favorite time of the year, since he especially enjoyed friendly wagers. He was a dedicated member of the Ancient Order of Foresters, Court Camoes #8110, where he was known for his ‘true stories’. He loved his Budweiser, and spent most weekends perfecting his craft.  George was also a jokester and loved to tell jokes to anyone who would listen. He was happiest at his home with his family and sweets by his side. Every afternoon he loved to sit in his yard and feed the birds while watching the cars in the freeway go by. His grandchildren and great-grand children always put the biggest smile on his face. He loved his family and never said no to any request from his family. He will be deeply missed and always remembered by his Wife: Winona, Mother: Elsie, Son: George ‘Mike’ (Darlene), Daughters, Claire (Darryl), and Karyn (Casey), Nephew: Kawika, Grandchildren: Kekai, Kahea, Josh, Jared, Micah, and Holden, Great-Grandchildren: Hayven, Treyse, Jayden, Kahanu, Deanarose and Donny.

Visitation:  Monday, June 13, 2011 from 11am  at Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. Validated parking at 1188 Bishop Street, Honolulu. Memorial Mass at 12noon. Graveside Service at 2:15pm at Diamond Head Memorial Park.  Casual Attire.
