The Reverend Father Estephanos Hanna, age 83, of Kapolei, Hawaii passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Fr. Hanna was born as Wahib Aziz Hanna in Mansoura, Egypt in 1938 to Aziz Hanna and Helana Fanous. He was the youngest of five siblings. He graduated with a BSc in Agriculture Engineering from Cairo University in 1964 and married Dr. Isis Hanna, DDS in 1968 in Alexandria, Egypt.
In addition to building a career in agriculture engineering that spanned three decades, he was a dedicated deacon and board member of a number of Coptic Orthodox Churches. In 1990, he was ordained by Pope Shenounda the Third as a priest and given the new name Estephanous. He dedicated the rest of his life to serving the church and its community. He served churches in Alexandria, Egypt, Pennsylvania, and Hawaii among many others.
Fr. Hanna is survived by his wife of 54 years Dr. Isis Hanna; his sons Joseph Hanna of Charleston, SC and Michael Hanna of Kapolei, HI and his wife Bernadette; and by his beloved grandchildren Jacqueline, Youssef, Rosemary, and Daniel.
Perhaps his most lasting legacy will be his fatherly love, care, and respect for everyone. He was a gentle and peaceful soul who lived as an example for all to follow. His faith was tested in many situations over his long life and remained unshaken. His deep studies and teachings of all matters of faith, theology, and church history guided multitudes of followers.
The services will be on Saturday, December 3, 2022, and will begin with Divine Liturgy at 8:00 AM at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church of Honolulu followed by the funeral prayers at 10:00 AM and then burial at Mililani Mortuary at 1:30 PM.
