I took both Sociology and American Studies from Mr. Thomson.  He started as my professor, then became family.  Thank you thank you Mr. T  for all you have contributed to this world.  Most especially for taking the endless time to mentor me and countless others.

I took Sociology 100 from Donald Thompson in the fall of 1991.  He was a great teacher who explained concepts well.  He taught that prejudice is an attitude and that discrimination is a behavior.  I have remembered what he said after all these years.  I graduated with my associates degree two years later and my bachelors degree four years later.

Don Thomson, Al Gil, Warren Toyama, Filo Tu, Allen Jenkins, Durward McDaniel.... all amazing, intelligent, fun, talented, hardworking men who dedicated their lives  in the field securing and protecting the rights of the blind across our country.   May they rest in peace while we take up the cause they carried for so many years.  jp

Don Thompson's life was a study in overcoming adversity and he overcame it with flying colors. Blind since he was a child, he was a curmudgeon of the first order. His prodigious memory for all matters musical (especially jazz), sport (especially baseball), and politics (especially liberal) was astounding, but not as totally amazing as his visualization of geography. We used to drive around Oahu and he would tell me things like "turn right a the next stoplight onto Waialae Avenue." How he knew that I will never understand. And he was able to put all this together with a lot of other knowledge and become, not only a professor of social sciences, but the head of the SocSci Dept at Leeward CC. However, above it all, he was a true friend, a friend I miss talking to everyday. Don Thompson was one helluva guy and I doubt we'll see anyone like him again for many a year.

Mr. Donald Lee Thomson lived a long and full life, but still the loss of him is very hard to deal with.  We don't know what to say.  We can't understand exactly how you feel, but God does and will keep raising you up.  We hope that our prayers will help a little.   May God sustain you at this time of such great loss.  How important it is to celebrate a life well lived and to cherish the many happy memories that your family has shared together.  One reads like this.  "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."  Acts 24:15
