Colin was my grandfather and we called him gramps. It was a while ago that he passed but that day is coming up and we are taking this time to remember him. I loved him with all my heart and he was so good to all of us. I love you gramps and can't wait to meet you at the gates of heaven.

It was with great sadness that I was telling our new friends in Maine that our accountant back in Hawaii had passed away when I realized that the word I wanted to use was not accountant, but friend.  We will miss Colin's sage advice, his folksy sayings, and his Midwestern mannerisms that reminded me of my own family from Kansas and Wisconsin.  Why he took us on (and others in the Biology Department) we will never know.  Was it that he felt sorry for us with our financial ineptitude, never exhibited more obviously than in accepting the low paying salary at UH.  Or was it for the entertainment value:  There was the time that he kept Dave out of jail after the IRS came after him to pay taxes on a National Geographic grant that they erroneously counted as salary.  Whatever the reason, Colin took care of us and we depended on him.  The preparer's signature line is blank on this year's tax form and our hearts are heavy missing our friend.  A big aloha to Colin out there by Diamond Head and our deepest condolences to his family.

Colin, you're the best! I couldn't have made it through my first tax season without you in the office next to mine patiently answering my questions (some over and over again!).  You put up with the office laughter outside your door....... And the best part was you stopping to pick up scones on your way to work just because you knew we liked them. The picture on this front page of Colin smiling brings back so many great memories of his great personality, jovial demeanor and heartfelt attitude towards everything.  Colin was so important to our family and my father in our financial situation.  We depended on him for so much and always came through for us:).  It pained our family to hear of the news but know he is in a better place.  We used to see him walking his dog on Lunalilo every week.  Rest in peace Colin...our prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends.  What an awesome, intelligent and fun loving man!

Colin will surely be missed. He has been my tax advisor for the past 5 years.

I would typically meet with Colin 1-2 times/year for some advise and he would always stand up, shake my hand and ask detailed information about how my wife and family were doing. I always wondered how he could remember such detailed personal information. He would mention a few details about his army time, his daughter or taking the kids to Disneyland and smile.

I moved to Germany 2 years ago and the last email he sent ended with "Have a Deutch beer for me"- Colin

previous email was "Dave, sign and return your tax forms". Off for Mexican food and a nice Mexican beer - Colin

I greatly valued Colin's advice and personality. He definitely valued hard work, his family and living life to the fullest.

Colin was my "baby" brother, and I was his babysitter from the time he was
two years old and until I graduated from high school.  We were very close
and I so looked forward to his visit back "home" every.  My husband and
I were able to visit him and Jannell several times, and they both made us 
feel so welcome.  Colin was very determined to get his college education
and he was able to do this by going to school and working full time.
He was a kind and loving brother and I thank God for him.
I'll be forever grateful to Steve for leading Colin through "the valley of the
shadow of death" and home to our loving Lord.

Colin has been a great friend for a long time.  We could always count on him for good company and great conversation.  He always had time to visit with our children at any age.  They very much enjoyed him.  We will miss his wit, humor and smile.

As a long time friend of Janell Israel, I was introduced to Colin's great wit, peaceful aura, and his great love for Janell. Besides his consummate knowledge on all things dealing with taxes, his clients will miss him, but his steadfast family saw to his every comfort in the waning days of his life. I took Janell and Colin to dinner several months ago while they were at a conference in Pacific Palisades, and although Colin was in pain, he didn't show it. I remember him taking a long walk in the balmy air. You will be remembered by your family and friends; Colin and may your next journey bring you light and redolent breezes. We met Colin only briefly, at the memorial events for Janell's father, who had been our friend since WW11. We remember how kind and thoughtful Colin was to us at that sad time, so we realize how he will be missed by family & friends, and send our deepest condolences to all.

Colin helped my mom and me after my dad passed away.  Then he helped me when my mom passed away.  May his loved ones be helped by good people now that he has gone.

I've known you longer than anyone else on here. You were my uncle, only 9 years older than me, and at times, my big brother. You were an example to follow. I went to your basketball games and to your DeMolay ceremonies. I was proud that you were an Eagle scout. But I was prouder yet when you came back home wearing your Army uniform. When you moved to Hawaii, we kind of lost touch. However, as I grew into an adult, and you would come "home" to visit, we would make it a point to get together and go out at least one night. We would consume adult beverages (I hope that doesn't shock your friends on here) and stay up talking until the early morning hours. I am going to miss that. You were kind and generous enough to see that I was able to come and visit you in Hawaii. Thank you. Rest easy, dear uncle.

Colin, we'll miss you. As an advisor, you shared sound advice and excellent service. More important -- as a friend -- you shared interesting stories, great humor, and the occasional glass of wine. We'll see you on the other side!

I am grateful to have known and worked with you all these years both here in Janell's office and over in Kailua at the tax office with Pat.  You will be missed by many.  We will do our best to care for your clients in the coming years.  Aloha.

Colin, I will always miss your professional guidance, your quick wit, funny stories and friendship.   It was always fun exchanging stories of growing up in the midwest, and fishing in stories from nothern Minnesota. I know now you are with Art and your family.  Peter and I were so happy to get to know Colin better during our last visit. We shared some wonderful moments together. His warmth, kindness, thoughtfulness and interesting conversations will be greatly missed.

Colin is special to me on many levels and in many ways - a colleague, client, friend and big brother. I am especially thankful and appreciative for his support during my separation and divorce. I'm so thankful to have known Colin...he is one of the special people in my life.  He was kind, thoughtful, calm, and ever so patient.  What a great listener with a dry witty sense of humor and ever ready chuckle!  He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Colin was an amazing father-in-law and mentor to me.  I thank my wife for many things, yet at this time I am especially grateful for my relationship with her making it possible for me to know and come to love Colin these past 22 years.

I had the privilege of going with him on his last trip this past September to San Francisco to watch the Greenbay Packers play the 49ers.  My son, Jack, Colin's grandson, shared his love of football and Colin wanted to take him and bless him with that wonderful experience.  He cherished seeing all four of his grandchildren experience life through fresh eyes.

Working with him in the same office and interacting with his clients has also given me an opportunity to see how much he helped his clients and how much they loved and appreciated him.  He was full of knowledge and wisdom.

At his request, I served in the capacity as his lay minister during his last days in the hospital.  It was an honor that I will cherish forever as we prayed and read Scripture together.  We can be comforted that he is enjoying the presence of our Lord and being enveloped in heavenly music.

We love and miss you, Colin.

Colin - I am comforted to know that you are with God.  I will miss our daily spam musubi breakfasts at work and the occasional KFC lunches.
