92, Ewa Beach, Hawaii, passed away March 29, 2011 in Ewa Beach. Born April 13, 1918 in Anderson, Indiana. Married to Rena V. Avery on May 7, 1949. Retired Major of the United States Army and a Korean War Veteran. Masters Degree with University of Hawaii. PhD in South East Asian Culture from the University of London. Chairman of the Hawaii Lions International Youth Camp for over 20 years. President and Board Member of the Ewa Beach Neighborhood Board #23 for over 25 years. President and Board Member of the Ewa Beach Lions Club for over 30 years. Hale Pono Boys and Girls Club Board of Director for over 20 years. Ewa Weed & Seed community volunteer for over 9 years. Recipient of the Kapolei Outstanding Individual Achievement and Lifetime Service Awards. Throughout the world, Dick is known as the "Lion King" and often referred to as, "the Mayor of Ewa Beach".
He is preceded in death by his wife Rena V. Avery and they had no children. He is preceded in death by his Anderson, Indiana sisters and brother Helen Beamer-Segner, Mary I. Ward and Irvin Beamer. He is survived by his Anderson, Indiana nieces and nephews Sandra Howells, James (Judith) Ward, Rebecca (David) Libler, Edward (Cathy) Ward, Ann (Jeff) Fisher, Mary Beth (Mark) Hittle, Thomas (Kim) Ward, Gary (Stacy) Coy and Teresa (Joel) Brito.
He is survived by his Hanai Ewa Beach, Hawaii family members Coby and Eileen Lynn, Jim Lynn, Christina Lynn, Victor and Paulina Espero, Will Espero, Kurt and Donna Fevella, Abigail Fevella and Frances Rivero.
Visitation 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday (April 29) at Borthwick Mortuary, Mauka Chapel. Service: 11:15 a.m. Burial: 1:00 p.m. at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific – Punchbowl. Casual Attire. Flowers welcome.
