Alice Jackson Scott Henshaw, 82, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Alice was born in Glasgow, Scotland on June 28, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maria and William Inglis, two brothers, John and Walter Inglis, and her loving husband, John Henshaw. Alice is survived by her son, Brian Inglis, Sr. and his wife, Kimberly Inglis; five grandchildren, Joshua Inglis, Brian Inglis, Jr., Kaitlyn Inglis, Samantha Inglis, and Ashleigh McCloskey; as well as many relatives that reside in the United Kingdom.
Alice was a very strong and determined woman at a very young age. Her and her mother dreamed of coming to the United States. Unfortunately, her mother passed away before their dreams could become a reality, but Alice knew what she had to do. She left the only world she had known and headed to the United States. She worked hard and officially became an American Citizen. She was so proud of this and the only thing that topped that feeling was having a son and him becoming an American Citizen, later serving in the United States Air Force and earning a Bachelor's Degree. She would tell you that he was her greatest accomplishment.
Alice had many titles in life. She was a daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and mother in law, but one title she absolutely adored was Grandma. Her grandchildren were her life. She even retired early to take care of her grandchildren because she didn’t want them in daycare. She wanted to spend every moment with them. Because of this decision, her grandchildren have so many special memories with her and she cherished every milestone she could with all of them.
Alice’s laugh was just so infectious and she loved to joke around. She never took life too seriously. She always said, “I can’t take it with me when I die, so I’m going to enjoy it today”. Even in the worst of circumstances, she would make a sarcastic, funny or a crazy comment that would have you laughing and then she would say “well we can't change it, so it is what it is”.
Despite her ailing health over the past few years, she remained strong and steadfastly determined to see her grandchildren maneuver life as teens to young adults. She was so proud to be a part of watching her grandchildren graduate high school, earn Bachelor and Master degrees, and was looking forward to her youngest grandchild’s upcoming high school graduation.
She gave everything she had to her family. Although her passing has been extremely difficult for her family, we take solace in knowing that she is at peace and will live on in our hearts forever.
Memorial Services will be scheduled at a later date in Florida.
