We moved to Aliamanu on Wiliki Drive in July 1975..I  lived in Aliamanu until 1995 and the Mateo family might as well been my own.. my brother was a year younger than Danny and Mae was a year younger than I was.. we lived up the road from the Mateo’s and often stopped to say hi when defining home.. our parents all knew each other it was truly a family street!! Back in those days people didn’t come and go as often as now. Mr Mateo was the nicest guy I knew always smiling and telling us kids to be good or to come by and hang out.. he was always doing something in his back yard.. where we all would drive by we had two street access, so Hulakui was the road we all drove up to go home.. my memories of growing up with the Mateo family and Mr Mateo are endless.. but my father was their father and their father was mine.. rest now Mr Mateo.. get things ready for us.. we will see you again one day!! We will keep the kids safe and the grand kids, sending you light and love!! 💖💕

Alin’s kindness always stood out to me. I remember when I got my old white Chevy Nova, Alin offered to paint it. I said what color, he said “no worry you going to like it” with a grin.  I was a bit worried, until he delivered it in a baby blue color, awesome! 
How ironic, in the early days when I left Hawaii to start my own family 3000 miles away in San Diego, I thought I would leave the Ohana Spirit Behind, but God has his ways, as for the last 30 years I can always visit with my friend, your son Jimmy and his family and feel like we never left when we get together, and I feel Alin’s spirit ever so strong even today. For this I am thankful.

The earliest memory I have of “Alin” as you lovingly referred to him, was my early years maybe 10 years old and you brought this handsome guy home, and we did not see you for a while after you left home but I was glad when you brought Alin home again.  He was always smiling and joking I knew he made you happy; and he was always very respectful of Mom and Dad, and I know they had their challenges. I was happy when you folks started to come to some of the Holiday parties or Birthdays and I noticed as your family got larger on each occasion --- boys x 5 – and one day beautiful Ellymae!  Mom would ask if Alin would get the chicken “ready” for cooking some tasty food.  He would say “yes Na,” Alin would always come by and ask, “who wants the chicken blood” for dinuguan (forgive my spelling) and Mom would scream “oh no!” All in good  fun.

To Sister Eleanor, although the Love of your life has gone for now to the Father and to be sure he is in-charge of ”Mateo’s Auto Body Shop” in God’s Kingdom; His kind Spirit is found in your children and grandchildren – 50 in total WOW! 
To the entire Mateo Family, may God’s Grace Be Unto You as we know it has been a challenge to endure your PAPA’s passing; and we wish you great peace and fellowship during the Celebration of Life ceremony.  
We are unable to make the trip this time but look forward to our next trip when we can visit and reminisce again.

Aloha Everyone,

It has been 81 days since my Dad gained his Angel Wings … 81 is the magic number since he was able to celebrate 81 years old on February 10th, 2020 while at St. Francis Rehab "The Villa's" in the care of the wonderful team of staff with the most caring Nurses and CNA's.  Thank you to Islands Hospice for their compassion and support.  
We will be holding a Memorial Service for my Dad at a later date.  Due to the COVID pandemic, we had no choice but to have the Burial on March 30th, 2020 at Valley of the Temples in the Holy Cross section.  We had a Private Service held the morning of the burial.  We did have a Facebook Live service for family and relatives to watch as we spent time with Dad in the Maunakea Chapel at Borthwick Mortuary (Honolulu). Thank you for your Messages of Condolences and Sympathies.  On behalf of my Mother Eleanor "Elly", my five brothers Alex, Bernard, James, Irenio, Danny and I, along with our spouses and his 50 grand and great grandchildren, we ALL thank you for your love & support during this time of grieving.  We miss him so much!  His spirit continues to be carried on through our children as they carry on his Legacy of fishing and diving.  Thank you Dad for watching over us.  Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for your Love that continues to strengthen our family.  My Dad gave his Life to the Lord on January 8th - he is celebrating in Heaven and made whole with no pain in the Great Big Ocean Above.  He loved Fishing on his Boat, Hunting with the men on Lanai, Camping at Sand Island, helping the many children at Pearl Harbor Elementary school as a cross-guard and in the Lunch Cafeteria.
