Thomas “Captain Tommy” Lehman; son, brother, U.S. Navy veteran, husband, father, grandpaw, Christian, Merchant Marine, wood carver, outdoorsman and caretaker to numerous injured and orphaned animals, passed away at his home on Tues., Nov. 13, 2018. You may know him as an airboat captain from River Safaris of Old Homosassa. He was born in Camden, N.J. on October 20, 1931 to Roy and Rebecca (Waters) Lehman, one of four children. Mr. Lehman moved to Homosassa in 1989 from Cape May County, N.J., after a long career as a construction inspector for the New Jersey Dept. of Transportation. His love of the outdoors and the water brought him to his second career with River Safaris. Tommy was also a gifted and accomplished artist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers and their wives; Roy Lehman, Jr. and his wife Nancy, and Herbert Lehman and his wife Hazel. Captain Tommy is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy “Dot” Lehman; son Tom Lehman and his wife Lori; daughter Linda Cavage and her husband Bob; sister Cass Emberger; grandchildren Rebecca and Malinda (husband Jordan) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In accordance with Tommy’s wishes, there will be no viewing, funeral or memorial service. Tom’s Ashes will be scattered at a later date. His family appreciated the following nursing staff from Oak Hill Hospital; Shine, Mary and Victoria. They also wish to thank Vitas Healthcare in Citrus County, especially Tamara. Those wishing to keep his memory alive may donate to any veteran’s charity, Vitas Healthcare (formerly Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast) or any animal welfare group.
