Martin Jay "Marty" Tannenbaum

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Martin Jay Tannenbaum, 80, on July 21, 2023 at his home in Homosassa, Florida under the loving care of his wife Carrie, and Vitas Healthcare Hospice of Citrus County. “Marty”, as he was affectionately known, was born July 18, 1943 to Bella and Ben Tannenbaum in Brooklyn, New York, the oldest of three siblings. Marty proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and was stationed on the flight deck of the U.S.S Lake Champlain. Upon returning stateside, he joined the Police Department of the City of New York, and served there from July of 1965 until January of 1984. He was in the homicide division and also served as a motorcycle policeman. He forged many lifelong friendships while there, and many of his fellow officers and their families are grieving his loss. After retirement, he moved to Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa, where he was a member of the Sugarmill Woods Country Club. He was seen daily walking his beloved dogs in the neighborhood; first Ike, and then the Chooch Man. He was a pillar of his community, and continued to forge lasting friendships. Marty was a gentleman, and carefree with his charming and debonair manner. Known for his humor and quick wit, his inner circle of friends often referred to his “Martyisms”, which he cherished. Marty was appreciated and loved; and will be greatly missed by many. Marty is survived by his wife Carrie Hall-Tannenbaum; his aunt Marion Levine (Irv); brother Les Tannenbaum (Steve Klusmire); sister Terry Brown (Joel); cousin Barbara Mortmon; partner John Maladrino (Mary) and besties Steve Miller and Wayne Morris. Marty raised seven children and thirteen grandchildren. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on Tues., Aug. 1, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Fountains Memorial Park, 5635 West Green Acres Street, Homosassa, FL 34446, with The Patriot Guard Riders leading the procession from Wilder Funeral Home at 9:45 AM. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post #155 of Crystal River and Rev. Dr. Carlan Helgeson from Nativity Lutheran Church, Spring Hill, FL will officiate. All are invited to a Celebration of Life immediately following the burial at Wallace's Greenhouse, 2420 S. Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa, FL 34446.
