Margaret A. Stants, age 92, of Homosassa, Florida passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at her home. A native of Detroit, Michigan, she was born Dec. 9, 1931 to James and Sarah (Ferguson) Wheeling, one of four children. Peggy, as she was known to everyone, enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse for the Michigan Department of Mental Health and moved to Florida 25 years ago from her native Michigan. Mrs. Stants was a faithful and devoted member of Suncoast Baptist Church in Homosassa, and was a proud member of the Women's Purple Heart Auxiliary, where she had served as Treasurer for a number of years.
Peggy's perfect day would most likely involve gardening, knitting, doll making and orchids. The past few years she loved to spend her time reading books and playing games on her iPad. One of her favorite games was June’s Journey where she kept getting more and more islands and “things” on each one. Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Stants Sr.; her parents James Ruggles Wheeling and Sarah Faulkner Wheeling (Ferguson), and her sister, Edith Isabelle Wheeling. Peggy is survived by her children James Stants (Cyndie) of Coleman, Michigan; Heather Stants of Homosassa, Florida; John Stants (Karol) of Homosassa, Florida, and Robert Stants (Sara) of Howell, Michigan; grandchildren Joseph Stants (Rochelle) of Traverse City, Michigan; Krystal Stants (Greg Smith) of Spring Hill, Florida; Christina Stants of Coleman, Michigan; Jacob Stants (Rosa) of Ellsworth, Michigan, Eric Stants of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Gideon Van Stants of Howell, Michigan and Margaret (Maggie) Stants of Howell, Michigan; great grandchildren Thorin, Aria and Asher Stants of Ellsworth, Michigan and Alex and Issac Stants of Traverse City, Michigan, as well as her siblings, James Robert Wheeling (Debbie) of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Sally (Kathy) Ouellette of Milford, Michigan. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sat., Oct. 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Suncoast Baptist Church in Homosassa, with Pastor Tom Couric officiating, followed by a luncheon at the church. Interment will be private at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, where Peggy will join her late husband James. Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Florida. www.macrini-wilderfuneral.com
