Judy Thompson Butcher, 75, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville. A native of Williamson, West Virginia, she was born August 7, 1940 to Brady and Trienzi (Hatfield) Thompson. Judy was a retired cartographer for the U.S. Government and during her working life also held positions as a hospital field technician and a teacher. Her interests and passions included her family and friends, reading, growing flowers, everything world history, football, facts and figures, country music and its stars and last but not least, the many cats that crossed her path and brought her so much comfort and companionship throughout her life. Judy leaves behind her "BFF" and loving sister, Mary "Punch" McLaughlin and her husband John of Homosassa, FL; three nephews: Jim McLaughlin and his wife Debbie of Ballymoney, Northern Ireland; Michael McLaughlin of Homosassa, FL and David McLaughlin and his wife Kim of Germantown, TN; great nephew Brady McLaughlin of Germantown, TN; great niece Taylor Williams of Memphis, TN and numerous first and second cousins. A celebration of Judy's life will take place on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Florida with Chaplain Kelly Greenawald, Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, officiating.
