Janet Perryman Walsh, 83, of Homosassa, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018. She was born in Compton, CA, on June 16th, 1935, to the late George and Velta (Halbrook) Perryman, the youngest of four children. While attending Long Beach State University, Janet met Lawrence (Pat) Walsh (USN). Several months later, they were married in Pensacola, Florida, beginning a life together that would lead them to Naval Air Bases in Kingsville, TX, and San Diego, CA. In 1970, her husband received orders to report as the commanding officer of Naval Fighter Operations in Guantanamo Bay, where Janet took care of her five children with limited resources, stale food, powdered milk and a lot of courage (boa constrictors under the house and giant hermit crabs camping out in the kitchen). Following several years in “Gitmo”, the family moved to Reston, VA. Janet began a new career in the publishing industry at The Reston Times newspaper, where she was quickly promoted from proof reader, to editor, to production manager. She also held positions at Reston Publishing Company and Computer Science Corporation, retiring as a technical editor at Planning Research Corporation (PRC). Janet and Pat lived in Reston for 26 years. They relocated to Sugarmill Woods in Homossassa FL in 1998, enjoying many years of relaxation playing golf and entertaining family and friends. Janet will always be remembered as a dedicated Navy wife, loving mother and gentle soul, who cared deeply for her family and everyone who touched her. In addition to her parents and her husband Pat, Janet was preceded in death by her sisters Jessie Perryman Webber and June Perryman Hall, as well as a sister-in-law Patricia Perryman. She is survived by her five children, Patrick Walsh (Toni), Thomas Walsh, John Walsh (Janine), Sarah Walsh Coll (Sean), and Robert Walsh (Ellen). Grandchildren, Karen Walsh Foster (Zach), Meghan Walsh, Erin Walsh, Andrew Coll, Emily Coll, David Walsh, and Mark Walsh; brother George Perryman of Santa Maria, California; brother-in-law Gordon Hall and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church in Homosassa on Monday, August 13th, 2018 at 11 A.M. with Fr. Glenn Diaz, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or donate online at stjude.org Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, FL. www.wilderfuneral.com
