Wesley Charles Thigpen, Sr., age 77, of Vestavia Hills died on June 22, 2011. He was the son of the late Ernestine Dyer Thigpen and Wesley Albert Thigpen. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His parents moved to Birmingham when Mr. Thipen was 2 years old. He graduated from Shades Valley High School 1952 and the University of Alabama, 1959. He was a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity.
Mr. Thigpen, a professional musician, is a life member of the American Federation of Musicians. He lived in Montgomery, Al for many years where he was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He returned to Vestavia in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maxine Gray Thigpen; sons, Wesley Charles Thigpen, Jr,(Donna), of Red Bay, Al, Robert Woodrow Thigpen (Tammie) of Titus, AL; daughter, Melody Ann Stevens (Robert) of Madison, AL; grandsons, Jimmy Charles Thigpen of Cicinnati, OH, Samuel Clements Thigpen and John Wesley Thigpen of Red Bay, Jacob Daniel Thigpen of Titus; granddauhters, Rachel Ann Stevens and Courtney Elizabeth Stevens of Madison. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Richard A. Thigpen (Mary Ann) of Tuscaloosa; nephew, Mark Thigpen (Renae); niece, June Thigpen Huchraft (Steve) and Gail Thigpen Wilson (Scott). Pallbeaers will be grandsons, Jimmy Thigpen, Samuel Thigpen, John Thigpen and Jacob Thigpen along with nephew, Mark Thigpen and cousin, Thomas Dyer.The family would like to express their thanks to Evercare Hospice nurses, Lisa.
