PUGH, JR.,
Age 78, of Birmingham, died on Independence Day.
A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held July 7th at Brookwood Baptist Church at 10:30 AM. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service.
T.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Stine and Tillman W. Pugh, Sr. and by his son, Tillman William Pugh III (Billy). T.W. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nelda Jordan Pugh, his daughter-in-law and son, Sylvia and The Reverend Gordon Pugh, and grandchildren, Graham, Emma and Leah, who know him as “Papa.”
He was graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1952, Howard College (Samford University) in 1956, and later earned the M.A. from the University of Alabama. He often said, “I’ve had 23 occupations.” These ranged from Biology teacher to pharmaceutical rep, and from counselor & consultant to President of the Alabama AGC Self Insurance Fund. In his later career, he developed a passion for the work of the Cahaba River Society, negotiating between the environmentalist community and the construction industry. He enjoyed genealogy, tracing his ancestry to Isle of Wight, Va, in 1637 and writing three books of family history. He was a member and President of fraternity, as well as of the Birmingham-Jefferson Historical Society. He was an Optimist and a Gideon. He was ordained a Deacon at Ruhama Baptist Church, where he served as vice-chairman. He was kind, outgoing and generous.
