Thomas Wayne Townley

July 5, 1947 – December 21, 2023

Tom “Papa” Townley of Harpersville and formerly of Birmingham by way of Cahaba Heights (New Merkle), Alabama went to meet his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 21, 2023. He was 76 years old.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sherry; daughter, Kim (Kevin) Sturdivant; sons, Tommy (Madi) Townley and Justin “Mudd” (Laura) Townley; and grandchildren, Ashleigh, Tripp, and Tallulah.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Ruth Townley and by his brothers, Milton, Pete, and Larry “Yogi” Townley.

Tom was a hard working start up man for McConnell Technologies for 30 plus years. He was a member of the Birmingham Rugby Club and a member of the Army National Guard. His love of coaching and umpiring of all outdoor sports to his sons, nephew, and any aspiring athlete far outweighed all his jobs and activities other than being a dad and Papa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26th at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Immediately following the service in the chapel, burial will be held at Patton Chapel Cemetery in Hoover, Alabama.
