Thomas Richard Brannon, 82, passed away Friday March 1, 2024 at his home in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. He was a loving husband, father, and leader to all that knew him. Tom was born in Albuquerque, NM in 1941, was a graduate of The University of New Mexico and served in the US Army from 1961-1963. He married the love of his life, Dixie Brannon, on December 1, 1974. For 49 years they were best friends, partners and soulmates.
Tom was proud survivor of pancreatic cancer and a member of the PanCan Board of Alabama. He was an active member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church for over 40 years. After college Tom started his career in the automotive industry. He and Dixie moved all across the country working towards his lifelong goal of being a car dealer; which he did in 1993 when he acquired Brannon Honda. There he touched the lives of countless employees and customers. He was awarded the Birmingham Auto Dealers Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his long career in 2015. Upon on receiving his award, he insisted Dixie join him because he knew he earned it because of her.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Dixie, his daughter Jamie and sons Benjamin(Anna) and Patrick(Emily); his grandchildren Brittany(38), Megan(33), Corbett Ann(8), Thomas(6), Elizabeth(4), Simon(2), Archer and Liam(2 months), and five great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his father, William Brannon, mother, Ina Belle Brannon and brother, Edgar Brannon.
Tom was a devoted family man who loved his wife, kids, grandkids, and all family more than anything. The happiest times were the holidays when the house was full and he was cooking elaborate dishes for every meal. He will be missed every day by all that loved him.
Funeral Services will be held at 2p.m. on Sunday, March 10th at Brannon Honda located at 300 Gadsden Hwy., Birmingham, AL 35235. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held privately for the family at Alabama National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request with gratitude that donations be directed to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network(Pan CAN).
Services are under the direction of Ridout’s Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
