Once she retired, she spent her time working with local Veterinarians. Oxmoor Animal Clinic was the most recent clinic, and she enjoyed the camaraderie of small group and caring for the animals, many of whom she brought home to help recover.
Shirley was also someone who enjoyed gardening in her day and was constantly working in her yard encouraging the plants to grow.
Throughout her life she also encouraged many people along the way, helping them grow as well.
She was a member of Bluff Park Methodist Church and a supporter of many renovation projects over the years including the stain glass windows, benches and the columbarium project.
Shirley was preceded in death by her son Rick Powers, mother Janie Duncan, stepfather Newman Duncan and her sister Carolyn Forman Womack. Shirley is survived by her granddaughters Abigal Duncan and Brionna Stricklin. Nephew Allen Womack, (Terri) and Niece Carol Bajalia, (Sammy) and many great nieces, nephews and close friends.
A memorial service and internment will be Thursday April 24th, at 2:00 pm at Bluff Park Methodist Church in Birmingham with visitation from 1 until 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation to the Oxmoor Animal Clinic.
