Born in Macon, Georgia on August 25, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Dewell Douglas Dixon and Marie Davis Dixon.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Georgia and her Master's degree in Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services from the University of Montevallo. She taught english at both Bradford and Clanton High School as well as served as the director of the drama department at Clanton High School. She had a beautiful heart and soul to help others and served as a volunteer at The Lovelady Center and at the ARC of Jefferson County.
Affectionately known as "Sugar" to her family and friends, she loved spending time with her family. The owner of Spherion of Birmingham, she worked out daily with Cleo for 20 years and loved spending time outside. She loved the beach and visiting her beach home in Destin, Florida. Always elegant and dignified, Sugar had her favorite beach chair, loved great music, loved the University of Georgia Bulldogs, and cherished her red Mercedes. Her favorite wine glass can be described as the one that was full and her smile was as beautiful as the flowers she loved to plant.
Sugar was preceded in death by her sister, Mona Whitaker. She is survived by her fiance and life partner, Victor Hugo Marx, III; children, Adam Kidd (Meredith), Simon Kidd (Haly), Hugo Marx, IV (Julia), Hallie Webber (Will), Alice Goodsell (Blake), Nathan Marx (Adam), Rachel Ozburn (Jason), Alix Whitaker, Lauren Morris, Scott Kidd, and Sara Kidd; Grandchildren include Russell, Baker, Stella, Samuel, Julian, Will, Hannah, Sara, and Joseph.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation and reception being held from five o'clock in the evening until seven o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 19th of March, at Ridout's Valley Chapel located at 1800 Oxmoor Road in Homewood.
Graveside services will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 20th of March, in Birmingham's historic Elmwood Cemetery located at 600 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35211.
The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to two of Sugar's favorite organizations; The Lovelady Center located at 7916 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, Alabama 35206 or to The ARC of Jefferson County located at 6001 Crestwood Blvd, Birmingham, Alabama 35212.
Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205.879.3401) in Homewood.
