Ronald Melvin Bedford, age 77, of Vestavia Hills, AL, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Ron was born October 13, 1937, in Birmingham, AL and was the second boy of a pair of identical twins. He attended Jones Valley Elementary and High School and graduated from West End High School. Ron was honorably discharged by the United States Army in 1962 following 6 months active and 5 ½ years of reserve duty as a Military Policeman assigned to the 87th Maneuver Area Command. He worked for the City of Birmingham as an Assistant Warden at the City Jail while attending Jefferson State Junior College and Montevallo College. Ron worked with his father-in-law and later owned Ingels Evinrude, Inc. He was a member and served as president of the Mid Alabama Marine Dealers Association. After closing his business, Ron worked for 5 years with Rainbow Paint and Decorating in both inside and outside sales. Ron was a deacon at Central Park-Ensley Presbyterian Church and later a member at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Ron was a past member of the Ensley Rotary Club.
Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean I. Bedford; sons Ron Bedford, Jr. and Bart Bedford; grandchildren Reif and Pepper Bedford; his sister Linda B. Bryan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Robie (Happy) and Eleanor W. Bedford; and his identical twin brother, Roby L. Bedford. A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at Ridout’s Chapel in Homewood on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron’s name to Alzheimer’s of Alabama for Lewy Body Dementia research or to another charity.
