Robert W. Smith

Robert William Smith, 75, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on December 18, 2022. Robert was born on May 12, 1947 in Homewood, Alabama. He was a graduate of The University of Alabama and Birmingham School of Law. Robert worked for over 40 years with Jefferson County Employees Credit Union. He was elected president of the Birmingham-Jefferson chapter of credit unions and past president of the Birmingham Civitan Club.

Robert was a long-time member of the Shriners, York Rites, Scottish Rites, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Reserves, Alabama Sheriff's Reserve Association, The Club, and The Summit Club.

He was a former member of Hunter Street Baptist Church and currently attended Church of the Highlands, Grants Mill Campus where he served as a greeter and usher.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Smith, and his brother, John Smith, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Candace Whatley Smith, niece, Leigh Smith Amos, his beloved fur son, Moose McGrady Smith and a host of family and friends.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Church of the Highlands Grants Mill on Thursday, the 22nd of December 2022 beginning at ten o'clock in the morning with the funeral service following at eleven o'clock in the morning. Burial will immediatley follow at Elmwood Cemetery with Cory Hardesty officiating.
