Robert Joel “Bob” Farrell, CLU, CHFC, LUTCF passed away on April 14th after a brief illness. Robert was married to Amanda Jane Morrison and they celebrated 50 years of marriage this past December 26. He was the proud father of Dr. Robert Joel Farrell, II (Dr. Robin Gosdin Farrell), Rodney Jay Farrell (Mona Gray Farrell), Dr. Riley Jarrett Farrell (Kelli Richard Farrell). He was the beloved Papa of Revin, Jordan, R.J., and Savannah. His legacy will live on through His grandchildren; they were the light of his life. He was a special grandfather to Brooke Baggett and Brittany Baggett Walker (Mike). He was the brother to Donna Thomas (Lavoy). He was the brother-in-law- Albert F. “Buddy” Morrison (Connie). He was uncle to Kathy Baggett (Phil), Jason Thomas (Rhonda), Al Morrison, and Alisa Cowan (Andy). Preceded in death by his parents Joel Elbert and Claudia nee Riley, sisters – Nettie Riley, Vivian Ethridge, Katherine Bender, and Elizabeth Johnston, brothers – Bill and Jack Farrell, beloved in-laws Albert F. “Fred” and Sue Morrison, and his brother-in-law, to whom he was a son, Ernst Bender.
Retired after 35 years of service with Liberty National Life Insurance Company, Robert continued his professional and community service in a variety of ways. He served as a Deacon and Treasurer for the Hoover Church of Christ. He served on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America Birmingham Area Council and Positive Maturity. He served as the Regional Director of Education for The American College. He served as the State of Alabama Association Executive for National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and was a former President of Alabama Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He served as a supporter of Lads to Leaders and Leaderettes. He served American Red Cross as a Blood Drive Coordinator. He was raised a Master Mason, a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite, and a Shriner.
A memorial service will be held at the Hoover Church of Christ at 2:00 PM on Wednesday April 16. Visitation will be held prior to the memorial service at the Church Building.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Childhaven (Childhaven.com), Rainbow Omega (rainbowomega.org), or Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort (disasterreliefeffort.org).
