Phillip Rumore ran into the Arms of Jesus and Mary on his 67th birthday, April 7th. He left his earthly life in the same place where it began, St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend whose generosity extended far beyond any public knowledge. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol, their daughter, Christina Hare and their son Michael Rumore and their spouses Joel Hare and Donya Rumore. His children brought six beautiful and adoring grandchildren into his life, Maria Andrew and Emily Hare. And Adlay Amira and Annalise Rumore. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Jo and her spouse Sam Cusimano, and his brother, Joseph Rumore Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Rumore and Angie LaSusa Rumore, and his brother Frank Rumore.
Phillip was raised in a home filled with music as the son of perhaps the best known southern radio personality of his time, Joe Rumore. The elder Rumore was a pioneer in morning radio and young Phillip appeared frequently on his father’s show, sparking a driving talent for entertaining people with his wit and humor. Phillip played trumpet as a young student and grew in his love for music, particularly harmony, which became a theme of his life in all phases. Singing brought Phillip joy, and he always did so at the top of his lungs. Many times being recognized for his pitch perfect harmonies that he sang along with whatever lucky musician happened to be on stage.
He attended his beloved University of Alabama as a freshman and finished his degree at UAB before starting his professional career. He created First Team Productions and established the first commercial mobile satellite uplink company in Alabama, covering some of the most important and widely seen athletic events and news stories around the southeast.
Eventually, like his personal life, First Team Productions became focused on spreading the word of God. Phillip was fiercely devoted to his faith, attending daily mass and receiving the Eucharist no matter the circumstances for the last twenty five + years of his life. Similarly, he had a devotion to the Blessed Mother of Jesus, to whom he prayed for intercession in countless intentions.
Perhaps his favorite religious passage was from St. Theresa of Avila “ Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things are passing. God never changes, patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone suffices…”
Phillip’s larger-than-life persona will be deeply missed by his forever best friend and spouse, his family and hundreds of friends. But it is worth noting that his generosity touched hundreds more who never knew where the kindness came from. Rest in the loving arms of God, Phillip
