November 19, 1993 -- December 28, 2023
Beloved son, brother and friend, Mitchell Joseph Kahn of Mountain Brook passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 28, 2023. Mitchell grew up in Mountain Brook and attended The Altamont School and The University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Mitchell was beloved by all who knew him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a special gift to make people smile and laugh. He had an intellectual curiosity and could talk to anyone about anything.
He was an avid stock trader and spent every day carefully analyzing the market. Last year, he was able to spend a day at the New York Stock Exchange and was exhilarated by the experience especially getting to meet and talk to the CNBC analysts.
Mitchell loved watching movies and was an excellent film critic. He also was an avid history buff particularly on world civilization and politics. One of the things he loved most in the world was his cat, Marcus, who brought him comfort and joy.
Mitchell cared deeply about others especially his family and friends. Rather than attend college out of state, Mitchell made the decision to stay in Birmingham to be near his family and to help care for his father, Dr. Donald Kahn, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
Not long after his father’s death, Mitchell was diagnosed with severe autoimmune issues which prevented him from fighting infections. Through it all, Mitchell stayed upbeat and positive. His honest take on life, his kindness and his integrity were an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved him.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Donald Kahn and his grandparents, Margaret and Maurice Salloway and Bertha and Nathan Kahn. He is survived by his mother, Dr. Shirley Salloway Kahn and his brother, Alexander Garry Kahn who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by Uncles and Aunts Ronnie and Karen Salloway and Gloria Koplon and many loving cousins and special friends, Doretha Sampson, Karen Glidewell, and Cedric Johnson.
The graveside funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Elmwood Cemetery, located at 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35211.
