Mary Maxwell Stephens

Mary Frances Maxwell Stephens of Hoover, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Saturday February 7th, 2015. Mary was born and raised in Northport, Alabama and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School. She attended Huntington College in Montgomery and The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she a member of Delta Zeta sorority and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. Mary did her graduate work in elementary education at U.A.B. Mary was a lifelong teacher and taught in both Tuscaloosa and Jefferson County School systems and Hoover City Schools including Green Valley Elementary School.

Mary was a member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia. She was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School class, United Methodist Women and the Love-Joy Circle. Mary was a member of Friends of Historic Northport and took personal interest in the historic restoration of Northport as her family (Maxwell's) came from England in the early 1800's and settled in there.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. James Richard Maxwell. Mary is survived by her husband of 57 years Jesse Hayse Stephens. Sister Martha Maxwell Brock of Panama City, Florida. Sons Thomas Maxwell Stephens (Sabrina Stephens), Phillip D. Stephens (Dianne Stewart), and Richard H. Stephens. Mary had one grandchild Mary Caroline Stephens whom she loved dearly. The Stephens Family would like to extend their gratitude to Jeremy Stiles and the Gentiva Hospice team and special friends Athanell Parks, Michelle Maiden, Marilyn Voltz, Shelley Adair and Jackie Crear.

Services will be held on Thursday February 12th at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:30am with a short funeral service beginning at 11:30am. Private burial will be at 3:00 at Williamson Cemetery in Northport. Ridout's Valley Chapel will be directing.
