Mary Ann Starke

She was the daughter of Ella Rose Curran Schanbacher and Orville William Schanbacher. She attended Mountain Brook Elementary, Brook Hill School for Girls and University of Alabama. She was active in the community as a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, Birmingham Symphony Association, Birmingham Music Club and Highlands United Methodist Church.

Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Walter Marcellus Starke, brother Orville William Schanbacher Jr and sisters in-laws, Eugenia Grubb Schanbacher and Cary Starke Westhause. She is survived by her children, Walter Marcellus Starke, Jr (Kim) of Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth King (David) of Clanton, AL, and Curran O’Neal (Robert) of Birmingham, AL and her grandson, Walter Dean Starke of Charlotte, NC; brother, Robert Vincent Schanbacker (Aleta) of Mountain Brook, AL, sister, Jo Ann Schanbacher Miree of Mountain Brook, AL, brother-in-law, John Metcalf Starke, III (Pat) of Chattanooga, TN and many loving nieces and nephews,

Visitation for family will be held Wednesday September 24 from 9:00–10:30 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery at 11am. The Reverend Jeff Carlton officiating with Ridout’s Valley Chapel Directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
