Mary Gaynor Screven

Mary Gaynor Screven, age 92, died peacefully on April 4, 2017 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Screven was born in Superior, Wisconsin on August 24, 1924. She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Screven, Jr. and brother John (Jack) Franklin Anderson. She graduated from the University of Georgia where she was a cheerleader. She was also a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Gaynor was the daughter of the late Edward Josiah Anderson and Ava Marie Anderson. She is survived by her sons, James O. Screven, III (Cindy), Edward Franklin Screven (Barbara) and John Slade Screven (Tierney); ten grandchildren James O. Screven IV, Thomas Hagan Screven, Anna Christine Screven, Mary Gaynor Screven, Edward Franklin Screven, Jr., Kathryn Gaynor Screven, Christina Elizabeth Screven, John Slade Screven, Jr., Ryan David Screven, Lara Kathleen Screven and five great grandchildren.

Visitation with family will occur Friday, April 7th at 8:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Cathedral of Saint Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Birmingham Ostomy Association P.O. Box 36245, Birmingham, Al 35236 or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
