Mary Edna Lawrence Peerson passed away on June 4, 2016 at the age of 91 after a brief illness. She was born in Leeds, Alabama on July 13, 1924 and was a long-time resident of Mountain Brook, Alabama. Mary Edna graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and retired after enjoying a successful management career with Alcatel-Lucent (AT&T). She was a faithful member of South Highland Presbyterian Church and served for many years as a “Pink Lady” at UAB Hospital. Mary Edna passionately loved her family and never missed an opportunity to share birthdays, holidays and other special occasions with them. She enjoyed many travel adventures, was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Appreciating her family heritage, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Walker (Buck) Peerson, Jr., and her son Horace Walker Peerson, III, (Marie). She is survived by her three daughters, Dee Peerson Morgan, Mountain Brook, AL, Mary Peerson Ashley (Bill), Montgomery, AL, and Suella Peerson McMillan (Phil), Blountstown, FL. Grandchildren include Walker Peerson (Allison), Charles Peerson (Sarah), Graham Peerson (Terri), Julie Carpenter (Austin), John Peerson (Kathleen), Margaret Bridges (Clint), William Ashley (Amy), Philip McMillan (Marianne), Duncan McMillan (Betty), and Kathryn Mitchell (Ryan) along with 19 great grandchildren and another great granddaughter due this month.
Mary Edna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed. Her quiet example of humility, courage, perseverance, and faith in Jesus Christ are a wonderful example of a life well lived.
Visitation will be Tuesday June 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the church parlor of South Highland Presbyterian Church, 2035 Highland Avenue S., Birmingham, AL. A celebration of Mary Edna’s life will be at 3:00 PM in the church chapel followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to South Highland Presbyterian Church, Emmett O’Neal Library, or your favorite charity.
