Martha Manner Acton, 90, of Birmingham, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 14, 2020. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Martha exemplified what Christ calls us to be: kind, compassionate, and loving of others through a servant’s heart. Everyone who met Martha loved her and was a better person for knowing her.
Born December 3, 1929, to Albert and Lula Manner in Milan, Tennessee, Martha was the youngest of seven. Martha attended Bethel College, where she met the love of her life, Tyrus Raymond Acton. They were married on November 26, 1949, and moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Martha and Ty had four children during their 68-year marriage. They were members of Lakeside Baptist Church, where they actively served for years.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Albert Carl Manner and Lula DePriest Manner, and her daughter Katherine Acton Abraham. She is survived by her son, Tyrus Raymond Acton, Jr. (Peggy), her twin daughters, Kay Acton and LuAnne Acton Ross (Randy), and 10 grandchildren: Martha Coan (Adam), Cory Acton, Sarah Kirby (Chandler), Sam Fuston, Colton Ross, Ryan Ross, Lindsay Arias (Grayson), Jonathan Brown, Eason Abraham, and Garrett Abraham (Maggie). Martha spoke often of the day she would meet Jesus and be reunited with her loving husband and youngest daughter, Katherine. She is rejoicing in this reunion today.
The family will receive friends at Ridout's Valley Chapel on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 beginning at 12 noon with the funeral service following at 1 pm.
