Mark Sides

Mark Edward Sides of McCalla, age 65, died June 12, 2023 at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center. Mark attended Minor High School, Jefferson State Jr. College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He retired from Alabama Gas Corporation in 2013 with 24.5 years of service. His final position was Engineer and Field Coordinator.

Mark was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed travel, particularly by train. He spent many happy hours watching all types of sports. Everyone who knew Mark, knew him to be an enthusiastic hobby collector and savvy trader. He also delighted in spending time with his loving wife Von of forty-two years (going on forty-three). Together they even enjoyed his frequent medical visits. Ever charming Mark made friends with his doctors, nurses and other patients. Even though Diabetes, Liver Disease and Kidney Disease took Mark from us far too soon, as Mark often said: “It’s been an amazing run”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Carolyn Sides and his brother, Jeff Sides. Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne Wood Sides and his sister, Leigh Anne Sides of New York, NY. He is also survived by his three large loving families, his Sides Family, his Trammell Family and his Alabama Gas Corporation Family.

The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209, on Friday, June 16, 2023 beginning at 12 noon with services at one o’clock in the afternoon. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 800 Dennison Ave. SW, Birmingham, AL 35211. Serving as pallbears will be Stacy Price, Todd Bates, David Trammell, Chad Green, John Price, Darby Shirley, Don Nichols and Jerry Watts (Honorary).
