Margaret Marcella Bailey

Marcella grew up in Cullman, Alabama where she attended Sacred Heart Academy before moving to Birmingham to attend St. Vincent’s Nursing School. After receiving her Nursing Degree, she began her nursing career at St. Vincent’s Hospital where she primarily worked in the Emergency Room. After leaving St. Vincent’s Hospital, she worked at Brookwood Hospital in the cardiovascular unit focusing on Brookwood’s open heart surgical unit. She completed her nursing career at Outpatient Services East. While she was a nurse, she was an active member of Alabama’s Organization of Registered Nurses (AORN) serving as the organization’s president late in her nursing career.

Marcella attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and was active on various committees and organizations including: the Women’s Altar Society, the Bereavement Committee and singing in the church choir.

Marcella was someone who never met a stranger and was definitely blessed with the “gift of gab.”

Marcella was the second daughter of Joe & Catherine Voss of Cullman, AL. Her siblings include Martha Voss Thomas (Kurt Thomas) of Peachtree City, GA; Abbott Marcus Voss, OSB of St. Bernard Abbey of Cullman, AL; and Michael Voss (Gay Voss) of Cullman, AL. Marcella was married to the late James Julius (Jim) Bailey, of Birmingham; and they have three sons: Pat Bailey (Shannon K Bailey) of Birmingham, AL; Richard Bailey (Kelly Chanfrau Bailey) of Ormond Beach, FL; and Phillip Bailey (Jason Rae) of Milwaukee, WI. Marcella is survived by six grandchildren: Malley Bailey Seale (Taylor Seale), Blake Bailey (Morgan Bailey), Grady Bailey (Kathryn Bailey), Brooke Bailey, Lucy Bailey and Christopher Bailey. She has two great-grandchildren: Brooks Bailey & Jack Seale.

The family will receive guests Wednesday, December 4th, beginning at 1:30 pm at St. Francis Xavier Church located at 2 Xavier Circle, Birmingham, AL with a funeral Mass to follow beginning at 2:30PM.
