Mallory Bolen Whitaker (Lory) of Birmingham was ushered into the presence of her Savior surrounded by her loving family on September 19, 2023. She was born on April 5, 1958 to William Ossian Bolen Sr. and Vivian Killebrew Bolen. She attended Mountain Brook High School and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Alabama with a degree in Commerce and Business Administration. While at Alabama, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She graduated with a Masters in Education from the University of South Florida and taught elementary and preschool age children for years. She joyfully served in children’s Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She is a member of Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church.
Her bright eyes and beautiful smile portrayed her loving heart, but her love of laughter and making others laugh are what friends and family cherished most. She loved the outdoors, the lake, the ocean, running, and her Callie pups. Her energy filled the room and will be sorely missed by all who were ever around her.
Lory was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, Dan; her children, Daniel Taylor Whitaker (Maggie), Andrew Tucker Whitaker (fiancé, Ivana Enriquez), and Mallory Evelyn Whitaker. She was Mimi to her precious grandchildren, Jane Caruthers Whitaker and Calvin Major Whitaker. She is also survived by her siblings, William Ossian Bolen Jr. (Patti), Jennifer Bolen DuBose (Brent), and Sandra Bolen Ballard (Rob), her brother-in-law Dr. William Vernon Whitaker (Ginny), her sister-in-law Pamela Whitaker Ball, her mother-in-law, Jane Major Whitaker and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to all the nurses at Hope Hospice, especially Courtney and Hillary who remained steadfast and provided amazing care for Lory.
A memorial service will be held at Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church on September 21 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Graveside services will be private.
