Lucy Ireland Smiley, of Birmingham, died on April 28, 2011 after a short illness. She was born June 1, 1948 and was a graduate of Chatham Hall in Virginia and of Maryville College in Tennessee. She often lived short stints in other places and traveled the world over seeking adventure, making memories and collecting stories. She was an avid reader and had several personal works published. Lucy was a philanthropist with a big heart. She loved to garden, knit and was an active bird watcher.
Lucy’s greatest delight was her daughter and son in law: Amy and Jesse Easley; her grandchildren: Sara, Hannah, Jacob and Rebekah. Also left to treasure her memory are sisters: Pauline Ireland, Colleen Norton, Vicki (Terry) Grantham and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2011 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church
beginning at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Lucy Smiley may be made to The Children’s Ministry, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 3736 Montrose Rd., Mtn. Brook, Al 35213.
