Born December 5th, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama. She surrendered her valiant battle with lung cancer September 4th, 2013.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Eugene (Gene) and Mary Dunlap. She is widowed of Richard Eugene Romei, Sr. (Bud). She is survived by her spouse, Glenn E. Kirkland of Leeds, Alabama.
Her sisters are Pamela Burgess and Robbie Woolsteen of Birmingham, Alabama.
Her children are Crystal Krein (Mike) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Kelly Skelton (Joe) of Panama City Beach, Florida; and Matthew Romei (Laura Beth) of Leeds, Alabama. Her Step-Children are Richard E. Romei, Jr. (Deceased) (Debbie); Christopher Romei (Mary Lou), Mark Romei (Edie) and Travis Kirkland, all of Leeds, Alabama; P. David Romei of New London, Connecticut; Phillip Romei (Susan) of Birmingham, Alabama; Angela Forrest (Doug) of Voluntown, Connecticut; and Amanda Kirkland of Atlanta, Georgia.
Her Grandchildren are Nicole Romei, Anthony Romei, Lindsey Romei, Laura Whitney Romei, Kaitlyn Romei, Stephanie Romei, Brittany Romei, Alex Romei, John Romei, Charis Wayman, Erica Jade, Jacob Wells, Ethan Krein, Abigail Krein, Edward Piersa, Douglas Piersa, Amber Peterson, Devn and Dylan Skelton, Samantha Romei and Kathryn Romei.
Her Nieces and Nephews are Monica Gardner (Chris), Kerry Burgess, Ashlyn and Rob Woolsteen. Her Great Nieces and Nephews are Annah Burgess, Zoie and Cooper Gardner.
She is also survived by 11 Great-Grandchildren.
In life she was the moving factor behind so many powerful projects, keeping several businesses on track, and a huge family travelling forward. Her friends were many and spread wide across the land.
Her love was for a short time in this life, but it will be forever in our hearts. God relieved her suffering and took her to his Heavenly home. An Angel, a truly special Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and a friend to so many. She will be missed greatly, but her suffering is now over and she rests at peace.
Visitation will be at Ridouts Valley Chapel, Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama, on Friday, September 6th. Family hour at 4:00 p.m., and friends received at 5:00 p.m..
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Leeds, Alabama, Saturday September 7th, and 10:00 A.M. with procession and burial following at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, Alabama. A gathering for all who knew her will be at her home following the graveside.
