Laura was born in Bessemer, Alabama August 2, 1920 to Nannie Laura Abernathy Tucker and George W. Tucker. She graduated from Bessemer High School in 1937. After marriage in 1942 Laura accompanied her husband throughout his 21 year Navy career to bases in New York, Houston, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and Arlington, Virginia. Glenn and Laura returned to Birmingham in 1956, living first in East Lake, then Homewood, finally settling in Bluff Park-Hoover. Laura joined the Bluff Park United Methodist Church in 1962 and loved and served it for over fifty years, teaching Sunday School, tending the nursery, serving several years on the Administrative Board, holding several positions in the United Methodist Women and in her beloved Roy Gilbert Fellowship Class. Laura remained as active as physically able up until her death.
Laura is preceded in death by her husband, James Glenn Boren, to whom she was married for 35 years and to whom she was devoted until her death. She was also preceded by her parents, her sister Lorene Weed, and her two brothers James and Reed Tucker.
Laura is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Glenn and Patti of San Antonio, Texas; Gary and Donna of Birmingham and Saint Simons Island; Wayne and Joyce of San Diego, California; and James (Jim) and Felicia of Mobile, Alabama. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Troy Boren, Melissa Boren Vinson, Matthew Boren, Daniel Boren, Alan Boren, Lindsay Boren Day, Jeremy Boren, Patrick Boren, Jessica Boren Agnew, and Emma Boren. Those grandchildren blessed her with eight beautiful great-grandchildren upon whom she doted and showered her love. She is also survived by loving friends Dale and David Miller, Jimmy Ashworth, her special niece Nancy Weed Todd, and one sister-in-law Mary Ruth Tucker, as well as numerous other friends and relatives.
Affectionately known as "Mammaw Bo'', she gave her life and her unrestrained love to her family, her friends, her church and her God, God has been holding a special place for Laura.
Funeral will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 10th at Bluff Park United Methodist Church with visitation preceding there from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Laura requested donations to Bluff Park United Methodist Church.
