She graduated from Vincent High School where she met her husband, Dr. William Allen Standifer of Leeds, Alabama. They were married October 5, 1945. In 1957, they opened Standifer's Animal Clinic in Homewood, Alabama. The two worked side-by-side for as long as he lived, and she continued to work there with her son until the day she died. Kathleen served as founding member and president of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary for many years. She served on the board of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation as treasurer and was a pillar of the foundation since its inception. Her great depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the profession of veterinary medicine was recognized by all who knew her. She received the Alabama Hall of Fame Hero Award, presented by both the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation, for her dedicated humanitarian achievement for people and animals.
She loved the Lord and enjoyed being a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church for fifty-two years. She was a long time member and an important part of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Kathleen, also known affectionately as "Mama Stan," is remembered for her generosity and her gracious giving heart. Her positive attitude, outstanding character and sweet, kind spirit made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her deep love and devotion to her family was beyond measure. She will forever be loved, cherished and adored more than words can express.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly fifty years, Dr. William Allen Standifer; her parents, Effie and Bernard Clifton Kendrick; her sister, Louise Kendrick Drake; and her niece, Barbara Drake Morrison.
She is survived by her two children, Dr. Wayne Allen Standifer (Carol) and Kathy Lynn Standifer Deitsch (Gregg); four grandchildren, James Allen Standifer, Kathleen Deitsch Love (Dustin), Justin Michael Deitsch, Chelsea Standifer Crenshaw (Arthur); two great grandchildren, Mary Elise Standifer and Lyndsey Marie Love; sister, Lallage Kendrick Estock; nephew, Larry Standifer (Linda); nephew-in-law, Bill Morrison; great nephews, Timothy Standifer, Phillip Standifer, Clarke Morrison (Deborah); great niece, Melinda Clinkscales (Keith), Leslie Hilton ( Tim), Andrea Jackson (Mark); great-great nephews, Ryan Standifer (Dana), Justin Clinkscales and great-great nieces, Olivia Clinkscales, Megan Morrison, Charlotte Morrison, Sarah Anne Jackson and Katie Jackson.
Visitation will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood , Alabama on Thursday October 2, 5 -7 p.m.
Funeral and graveside services will be held at Bold Springs Presbyterian Church at 2 pm. on Friday October 3.
