Julie Ann Breeden, a consummate educator and nurturing soul, departed this life peacefully at her Birmingham, Alabama home on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Born in Auburn University's infirmary on May 26, 1941, Julie was the cherished daughter of Marion Randolph Pannell and Elleen Nearing. Her early years were marked by frequent relocations due to her father's military service, yet she always held Marianna, Florida close to her heart as home.
Returning to Auburn for her teaching degree, Julie found not only her professional calling but also her lifelong companion, George. Together, they forged a path adorned with love and joyful tumult. Julie's essence as a teacher and mother shone through every facet of her life, extending her care to countless children—whether borne or embraced through life's journey. Her dedication was matched only by her legendary patience, though she was not one to shy away from shaking that finger and setting things right when needed.
Julie's passion for travel carried her across the breadth of America and Europe, from the heights of the Swiss Alps to the tranquil waters of the Caribbean, the banks of the Seine, and the verdant paths of Great Britain. Her green thumb and botanical expertise were renowned, as were her skills at the sewing machine, where she fashioned garments that mirrored her innate elegance.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of nearly 61 years, George Breeden; her three children, Michael Breeden (Lori Renkl), Ashley Press (David), and Andy Breeden (Keily); and her beloved grandchildren—Michael's Max and George, Andy's Abbey and Zoey, and Ashley's Maddy and Andrew. Beyond her immediate family, Julie leaves behind a community of souls who regarded her as a second mother, among them Laurie Alaimo and Kelly Kerns, and countless others enriched by her boundless wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29th at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Homewood, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the P.E.O. Foundation and be sent to Kathy Beaumont at 7096 North Highfield Dr., Birmingham, AL 35242, honoring Julie's passions and commitments in life.
“I’ll miss my mother every day, and it’s the kind of pain I hope never fades away.”
