Julia May, who later in life was known to all as Honey, enjoyed staying home while her children were small. As they grew older she entered into a career as one of the “ladies” of the Briarclff Shop where she was a decorator for 20 years. She loved traveling to market where she would procure lovely furnishings and decorative items for the shop. She also enjoyed engaging with her loyal customers and helping select new treasures for their homes.
She was an avid gardener and could grow the most beautiful flowers. She earned several awards for flower arranging. She was also a talented seamstress, and could often be found in her sewing room making clothing and smocked dresses for her grandchildren. Her talents as a seamstress blossomed when she created her company Pillow Talk, which was appreciated all over the country. Upon retiring from Pillow Talk, she took up painting. Her most infamous creative talent is arguably her work as an abstract artist. Her house was full of beautiful unique paintings, and people far and wide loved to receive them as wedding gifts, etc. As the years passed, her paintings became a coveted item to own.
Making an impact on all who knew her, one of Julia May’s best qualities in life was her gift of laughter. She lived a life of love and had lifelong friendships from birth to death, and now in heaven. She lived a life worthy of the calling she received and was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and was frequently quoting scripture and teaching bible verses to her grandchildren. Along with Felix, Julia May was a founding member of their church, St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Mountain Brook, AL.
